David,

I am delighted by your response to the second batch of products. This
project has given me some interesting insights as to how individuals with
rosacea react or not react to certain ingredients such as: oils, soaps,
moisturizer, sunscreen, alcohol etc. I suspect that we'll have some
eye-opening conclusions to share when we're done. Hopefully, there may be
some answers to some confusing issues. Re the rosacea disks: I must confess
that I have never heard of them prior to visiting this group! I suspect that
a lot of dermatologists haven't either. I did visit their site and from what
I gather, the disks consist of different minerals compressed together in a
dry disk form and the ingredients are dissolved on wet skin leaving a thin
film. This is actually an ingenious way of formulating as it is anhydrous
(meaning, no water added), thus, it does not need preservatives. The 2 main
active ingredients are zinc oxide and sulfur which of course, are known to
help acne/inflammation. Without having seen the product per se, I am just
guessing that it might be quite drying and will absorb the accumulated
sebum. I would be interested in looking the products over and if they do
work, will not hesitate to recommend to my patients. To answer your question
of whether or not to combine the use of the disks with the acne oil control
gel, I have to say that it is probably prudent not to combine the two for
now since I am not familiar with the disks. The Acne Oil Control Gel has
salicylic acid which is in the family of aspirin (anti-inflammatory) and is
an effective exfoliant. It therefore unclogs pores. The Acne Cover Lotion
contains sulfur and may be duplicating the rosacea disks. I am most
interested in your response long-term and would appreciate your postings in
the next few weeks. Cheers!

I have been using the sunscreen and moisturiser in addition to the soap and
oil now for 2 weeks.

I have the feeling that my skin has been given something that it has been
crying out for, for years. I would've never decided to use the soap, oil
and moisturiser on my own, guy's don't need moisturiser - right ?! My nose
is now a pink tinge, no more dark red. The surface of the skin is not as
flat as it used to be, now there are pores and small bumps that aren't
pustules just normal looking skin. I always had a smooth nose but this was
probably because the pores were all quite swollen.

It is the hottest part of the year here now and the UV index is extreme
almost every day. The sunscreen is very light and feels just like a
moisturiser. It is non greasy which is nice because it is hard to feel
excited about a greasy lotion on an oily face. I haven't had need to use
the Recreational Sunscreen, SPF30 yet but I'm really looking forward to a
day outside when I can use it. I will rave about that one when I've tried
it ;-)

I'm not sure what is make my skin so happy, whether it is being cleaned and
moisturised for the first time in years, or whether the rosacea disks work
much better with healthier skin. Whatever it is, I'm happy because the
rosacea disks were a step in the right direction, and Linda Sy's products
have been another big step forward. Another thing that I wouldn't have
tried is to put a treatment, say Metrogel or Rosacea Disk on, on top of a
moisturiser. I would've thought that they would just mix together and not
work. Maybe this is what is really helping me. I continue on 50-100mg
Doxycycline daily as well.

My only problem now is how long I spend in the bathroom :-) I have just
started the Acne Oil Control Gel and Acne Cover Lotion, but I'm not sure
how I can best use these with the disks.

The soap is called Unscented Superfatted Soap for dry, sensitive skin type.
This is the one called Soap for Dry/Sensitive Skin

For those looking for a gentle soap I'd suggest giving this a try. I don't
normally react to soaps but I can tell that it is very gentle.

The sunscreen is called Optimal Light-textured Sunscreen, SPF15, Non-PABA

The oil which I think has made quite a difference to me is Moisturizing Oil
for Face and Body.

Thanks Dr. Sy for some nice changes in my skin's health.
