[rosacea] ocular rosacea celluvisc lubricants eye drops

Carol, As you well know, everyone's skin is unique. However, my treatment
approach with rosacea patients has been for them to apply their topical meds
continously but to get off the oral meds whenever their faces clear up (no
more bumps). It is not necessary to taper, unless one has been on the oral
meds long-term and is trying to wean their bodies from the meds. My approach
is the same with ocular rosacea. It is of utmost importance that those who
suffer from ocular involvement lubricate their eyes as often as is
necessary in order to make their eyes comfortable and the inflammation
soothed/calmed down. I advise patients to use only preservative-free eye
lubricants preferably the single use ones. I found another brand called
Refresh Plus to be very good and less thick than Celluvisc which is also
good but thicker. You see, I think what's happening to the eyes is similar to
that in the skin. One should discontinue the orals when the eyes are much
improved but keep lubricating constantly. Basically, it is just better not
to take too much oral meds, if at all possible.

[rosacea] Dr.Sy/Question

Dr. Sy: You indicated in a previous post that oral antibiotics were not
necessary for the treatment of rosacea if there were no pimples/bumps. If
one has been on the orals for a while, and the bumps are gone, can we just
stop all at once, or should we taper off? Also, I notice when I apply the
metrogel that my face gets red. This tends to disappear by morning. With
Noritate it's even more red. Is this causing damage? I have been applying
a moisturizer first, waiting, then applying the metrogel. This has improved
the overall condition of my skin tremendously (applying moisturizer first).
Thanks for your help.
