Lynne,
Your doctor is not out of date with respect to photoderm. There are
exactly zero publications on use of photoderm for rosacea flushing,
and very few on application to facial veins. (I know offhand of one
abstract by Bitter Sr, and another full-length paper by Angermeier at
Brown University; the latter was funded by ESC, maker of the
photoderm machine.) The bulk of the photoderm literature (which is
very sparse) does indeed deal with leg veins and various other
lesions. A recent review paper on surgical treatments for rosacea did
not even mention photoderm.
On this egroup, we (and I include myself) talk about photoderm as
though it is more common than pulsed dye laser. However, people
should understand that the surgical derm community is still quite
skeptical of it, presumably because of lack of rigorous clinical
studies, and some rather misleading photography at some photoderm web
sites. But, having said that, I have personally invested heavily in
it.
