I was a little leery too, but went ahead and did the online questionnaire. It
took a while for the results to come back ("sensitive-rosacea" -- no
surprises there). I found this list then, and asked about the Sher system. A
few people here responded that their results/experiences had been favorable, so
I went ahead and ordered everything recommended to me. I don't know the total
cost yet -- there wasn't an invoice with the package. I do know the shipping
alone was $48 (overnight UPS from the U.K., but my package took longer to
arrive because they had to locate the foundation I was using so they could
match it with their products).
I tried the products the day after getting them, and within a short time my
face was extremely red, swollen and very uncomfortable. I e-mailed the company,
and had an e-mail back the next day telling me to stop using all the products,
and that they would call me that day. Helen Sher called me and told me I must
have had an allergic reaction to something. I am supposed to wait for my face
to return to "normal", then try the two different pre-washes and see if I
react. Then I'm supposed to let Helen know how I do with those. Then I think
she will advise me to try the other products one at a time to see if I react
again. So far, my face hasn't returned to normal. Whatever happened seems to
have put my face in a state of hyper-reactivity. I have gone back to using very
mild soap-free cleanser and moisturizer for the time being.
Helen Sher told me she thought it was fine to give their makeup a try, and that
she doesn't believe I will react to that. So I did, but I can't seem to get the
knack of using their concealer/foundation. You have to combine the two and in
the instructions it says the proportions are important to the right coverage
and consistency. I've found it very difficult to get right, and have gone back
to using my Clinique foundation (which I like a lot), and which I can put on
much more quickly. The loose powder from Sher has a nice consistency, and isn't
too "powdery". But it also has mica or something glittery in it, and I've found
it seems to call attention to my face (at least I've noticed people looking at
me trying to see what I've got on my face). I don't mind a bit of sparkle for
night events but it's not something I feel comfortable wearing in the day.
Helen Sher told me she knows a great deal about rosacea, and I'm sure she does,
so I am still willing to work a while with the system, in the hope that my
face's condition will improve. I'm a bit nervous about trying the products
again though, given what happened the first time. Good luck if you try it.
